virtual vacation

At this time of year the SP and I are usually on a trip to a hot and sunny part of the world.
We like to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries by relaxing in the sun and enjoying time away together.
Our plans to head down to Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, this month had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.
Luckily, we were able to secure a refund from the airline and cancel the hotel without penalties.
Airline travel and vacations to foreign lands are going to look an awful lot different from now on and to be honest I'm not sure we'll be making these sort of trips in the future.
Recently we've been reminiscing about the trip we took to Fuerteventura in October last year, a place we hadn't visited before, to mark the occasion of our 40th wedding anniversary.

Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the Canaries, a Spanish controlled archipelago situated just 62 miles to the west of North Africa, with beautiful weather all year round and pristine white sand beaches it has long been a favourite destination for Northern Europeans.
Come and take a look...…………………….

Are you making plans to travel this year, staycation or vacation?
What will it be?

  3. Everything is up in the air. We are hoping to finally get home if the Canada/US border restrictions lessen. I guess you could say we are on a stayaway vacation right now. - Margy

  5. Your trip to the Canaries looks wonderful, full of warm sunshine! What a nice treat from the hotel for your anniversary. This year we are staying close to home, but doing some boating and camping. I wonder what travel will look like in the future.

Your trip memories look wonderful. What a beautiful place to spend your anniversary! We missed our 30th anniversary which was back in early May. Maybe a road trip! We hope we can go somewhere soon, when it is safe!

  13. Maggie, No plans for an airplane ride in the year! Good to hear you got your money back. I was talking to a fellow yesterday who is working with an airline to get $1500.00 back. Have a great week. Sylvia D.

  14. Hi Maggie
My husband and I were supposed to celebrate our June birthdays with our family on a 10 cruise of the Adriatic Sea. Of course we cancelled it when covid broke out in Italy, and we were able to get almost a full refund--the cruise line kept some money as deposit towards a future cruise. We are not sure when that will happen--maybe far in the future? Anyway, as long as we stay healthy that is all that counts in the end.

  15. Maggie - belated 40th anniversary. Isn't it amazing to think what used to be so "normal" now may be very special indeed? It looks like a stunning location with blessed memories.

We are still trying to plan our regular trip to the UK in the fall, but it is very much up in the air. And who knows about our 30th anniversary next year? We had dreamed of a very special vacation to celebrate … time will tell.

Thanks for linking up, my friend!

  16. It will be road trips only for us, and maybe just day trips. We are too old to take chances, but not old enough for the rocking chairs.

  17. Your memory trip looks like a wonderful one ... and memory trips are exactly all that we’ll be taking for the foreseeable future. ( we are usually traveling in June also). We aren’t even sure if we will even go to our winter home in Florida in December (that State isn’t looking good at this point). ...I’m glad you were able to get your money back on your planned trip..
